Read: 1 Corinthians 2:7-9; Ephesians 3: 20
Reflect: I love that Paul is somewhat repetitive in his letters to the churches. Each of them has their own theme and message, but I believe you can see in our two passages today that Paul shared some of the exact themes with different groups of people. To the Corinthians, he also reflected on the mystery that is God inviting all people into relationship with Him through the life and death of Jesus Christ. Then, in both books he shares his thoughts on God working in ways beyond anything we could ever think, hope for, or imagine.
Here’s what strikes me as AMAZING today…. Often, He chooses to do the unimaginable in us, His very ordinary and very human creation. In Christ, we have the power within to live in a way that marks every life around us in unimaginable ways.
Respond: The story Beth shared about her husband’s grandmother that passed away on page 66 is funny, but the connection she made with it is breathtaking. If you missed it or skimmed past it, please read it again. Can you even imagine living so powerfully that your very ordinary funeral was interrupted by shouts from people saying things like,
“That’s not my mother!”
“That’s not my friend!”
“That’s not my boss, my sister, or my co-worker!”
“No. That woman was brave and bold and adventurous and had the audacity to love people who didn’t even like her. She forgave people and graced people like no one I’ve ever known. She helped…. She dared to ask people how they really were….. That woman faced obstacles….. And, she prayed like she thought God was listening….. This was the bravest person I’ve ever known.”
All of that was straight out of Audacious (chapter 6). Is there anything in that last paragraph that you would love to know someone could say about you? Maybe there’s something God has given you the desire to be, and it’s not in that list. Today, write down one or two phrases that you’d like to hear said describing you.
Renew: Now, what is hindering you from being that very thing? What is the obstacle that stands between who you are now and who you want to be? Nothing is impossible for God! And, you’ve been blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in Jesus. So, whatever the obstacle is, you can decide to tell it, “goodbye.” Why don’t you begin praying about that today.
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
