AUDACIOUS -- Week 1, Wednesday

Read: Ephesians 1: 1-12

Reflect: During our 12 weeks together, we are going to read through the book of Ephesians completely. It’s my prayer that Paul’s words to the church at Ephesus come off the pages to transform our hearts.

Paul speaks with such strong language urging these first believers to live audaciously for Christ. Listen to this description of the book of Ephesians from the NASB Key Word Study Bible, “Paul’s letter to the Ephesians is truly profound. The major theme of Ephesians is that the Church is the mystical body of Christ; God’s great master plan was to bring everything together under Christ as head; we, as the body of Christ on earth, have a part in this plan and the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of God’s promise.”

Respond: Did you catch that last line? We have a part to play in God’s plan! That is amazing, but it’s also terrifying. In that one thought, I’m alerted to the truth that I have a choice. Actually, we have several choices. We can ignore the calling and refuse to play our part. We can half-heartedly receive Christ, trust Him for our own eternity but reject the fullness of His plan. Or, we can dive into His grace fully and audaciously live out the part He’s planned for us. In your journal, write out anything that hinders you from living a life of spiritual audacity. Be honest! Also, journal about anything that excites you about living boldly for Jesus.

Renew: Read through Ephesians 1: 1-12 again and ask God to uncover the magnitude of what He’s done for you. Rest in His audacious love for you. Then, ask Him to uncover a next step you need to take with Him. Remember, you don’t have to know when, where, or how that next step will happen. He will do it! You just open your heart, lean in to His guidance, and be willing to accept His best for you.

“In Him I (or insert your name) have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of my trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon me.” Ephesians 1:7-8a
