We Go: Teaching Transparently

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see – how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.

Message Version

We are each His beautiful vessel, called to pour out the light and love of Christ; therefore, WE GO...

In 2008, as a young wife and mother, I started writing via a little blog called, “Enjoying God’s Goodness.” I set up this site to share pictures and stories of my adorable little preschoolers for family that lived away from us. Along the way, I realized that I could pair our stories with scripture to teach a mini Bible lesson or offer a short devotional. I was hooked! I enjoyed sharing God’s lessons to me through that blog. And, I LOVED that our life looked pretty behind the veil of a computer screen and the words I used to tell each story.

Well, in 2011, life took a turn. My husband (family pastor of our church) confessed his adultery, and everything about our world changed. No matter how I could spin the words or filter the pictures, no computer screen was thick enough to hide our ugly. I did what any normal person would do. I shut down the blog site IMMEDIATELY.

Two weeks later, God spoke to me very clearly while I was walking. The same goodness that He’d lavished on me through mothering my sweet children was being given still…. Even in our tragedy. In some ways, I was feeling His goodness even more. It felt sinful not to share these lessons too. I re-opened the blog to share and teach again through our families’ experiences. The stories weren’t nearly as cute. The mess couldn’t be covered. But, in many ways, it felt even more beautiful. It was simply too much to hold inside.

God created me to be a teacher. I was teaching my baby dolls and my sister (when she would cooperate) at a very young age. During my college years, God gave me a LOVE for studying His Word. Through life’s circumstances, He’s birthed in me a passion to teach His Word using my story. Life is hard for everyone! Even though many can’t relate to my story, everyone knows pain. Each day, I’m grateful for the lives God puts in my path to invent in and to share the TRUTH that HE IS GOOD!

**I’m including the first post I wrote after Scotty’s confession.

Gracious and GOOD Father, we need you to invade every part of our lives. So much of life involves pain and struggle. Even at those times, thought, you are GOOD. Many times, we come to know your goodness through our own brokenness. Give us the strength and courage to face those struggles, find your Truth to be our only comfort, and use our lessons to encourage others. I thank you for every time I’ve been able to use the bad in my life to give hope to another. That’s redemption! Today, I’m asking that You’d help all of us to see that our lives were meant to point others to Jesus. Our stories give us perfect opportunities to share.
