Proverbs 2:6-7, 10-11 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity…For wisdom WILL enter your heart and knowledge WILL be pleasant to your soul; discretion WILL gaurd you, understanding WILL watch over you.
Once upon a time I got a speeding ticket, ugh.
Once upon another time I got another speeding ticket, in the exact same location, double ugh. On both occasions, the police officer kindly and wisely warned me to SLOW DOWN for my own safety and for the protection of others. Thankfully, I learned my lesson, and I've stopped speeding (in that spot, haha). I think we can all agree that traffic laws are designed to keep us safe while on the road. We accept the fact that it's best to obey a red light, heed a railroad crossing bar, or trust double yellow lines. These street signs and signals are not meant to punish us; they're meant to protect us.
God's Word is just the same. The Lord has set up a wise path for us to follow, one that guides us in making decisions and in relating to one another. His Good Book is full of "stop lights" and "warning signs" and "double yellow lines", teaching us how to live within the protective boundaries of His abundant freedom. The road apart from His guidelines is full of confusion and disorder. The things that seemed harmless and fun are the very things that create personal havoc or relational wrecks. Truly, His way IS best: will we choose it?
I think a fear for some people when they are making the decisions to follow Christ (or not) is that they think they might lose out on life, that God's rules will somehow restrict them. Actually, as I have come to learn personally, I'm not restricted, I'm protected. The times I've chosen to disobey, I've received forgiveness, but I have also had to experience the consequences of my actions. Some consequences are small, like paying for speeding tickets; but other consequences, especially in relationships, have taken years to repair. (Talk about "losing out on life"!). On the other hand, when I choose God's path of wisdom, His blessings flow, one of the greatest being the Lord's peace in my heart as well as peace with others.
So let us "seek wisdom as silver and search for her as for hidden treasure" so that it will "enter our heart and that knowledge will be pleasant to our soul" (Proverbs 2:4,10). If you seek wisdom, you will find Christ. In our life path, His all-knowing nature is meant for our protection, not our punishment. He WILL do it because He said so.

Thank you for Your living and active word that teaches us how to steer down each of our paths. Thank You that You desire the best for us, and that You want us to choose Your way because it's full of pleasures that we cannot imagine! All other roads are dead ends. Keep us from foolishness, dear Father. Please fill us with your Spirit and cause us to long for Your ways. Keep pulling us into Your light and Your love. We want Your road; keep us on Your paths of peace. We praise Your Name together. AMEN
