Week 5: The I AM says He WILL Protect.
Day 2: He WILL protect you by giving you His armor for battle.
Ephesians 6:10-11 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you WILL be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
My youngest son has a favorite shirt that he bought when he went shopping at Goodwill MANY years ago with a group of friends. He would wear this shirt every day, if he could. The shirt is hard to describe. Let’s just say that it is a faded, short sleeve button down with amoeba-like designs or something. If you were to see him in the shirt, you may not notice how worn out and dated the shirt is. What you would see instead is his smiling face, witty sense of humor and confidence. My son is ready for anything when he puts on his favorite shirt. Maybe you can relate. Do you have a favorite shirt, pair of jeans, dress, etc. that makes you feel good and ready to take on the world?
Today we focus on what it means to get up and get dressed daily with all that we need to be strong in the Lord and stand firm against the schemes of evil. The good news is there is no need to go to any store or even search online to find the right piece of attire or weapon. Our Lord purchased that gift for us. He gives us the armor we need to follow through with His direction to stand firm in faith.
There are commands all throughout Scripture for us to be strong and stand firm. The call to “be strong in the Lord” in Ephesians 6:10-11 is one of those commands. It is referencing that strength is something God gives us, something we receive from HIM!! Thankfully, He also gives us the directions on how to receive this strength, by “Putting on the armor of God.” In Priscilla Shirer’s book, The Armor of God, she explains it like this: “By putting on the armor, we activate the strengthening process. It’s like plugging in your phone charger. You can count on your phone to hold a charge, but only if you’ve taken the initiative to plug it in. We will never realize the fullness of God’s strength in our lives if we ignore the spiritual protection He offers. It’s always available, but we must ‘plug in’ if we want to access it.”
Also, unlike the favorite shirt, pants, or dress, the armor of God should be worn daily, consistently and faithfully. The enemy doesn’t take time off. He is always searching for an opportunity to destroy us. We must be dressed and ready with God’s armor: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. Remember that our God doesn’t take a vacation either. HE WILL protect us by giving us the ability to stand firm. He WILL do it because He said so.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Your protection. The strength we need for resisting the enemy and standing firm in our faith comes from You. I do not want to be lazy or complacent when You provide me with Your armor to wear every day. I want to wear it in a mighty way and step out with confidence in You. I want to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in your works, Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). For it is when we abide in you and dress with the right armor that You will crush Satan under our feet (Romans 16:20). Today, I am suiting up for Your strength to be infused into me by You!
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
