He Will Help You in Times of Trouble

Week 4: The I AM says He WILL Help

Day 2: He will help you in times of trouble

Psalm 50:15

Call on Me in the day of trouble; I WILL rescue you, and you will honor Me.

There have been a couple of times in my life that I have received disturbing phone calls bearing news that literally made me have to sit down. I felt as if the wind had been knocked out of me. For days (weeks, months…) afterward, I would catch myself just shaking my head in confusion and dismay. On both of these occasions, I had to reevaluate my life as I once knew it. I had to cry for help.

"O God, in the greatness of Your lovingkindness, answer me with Your saving truth. Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink... May the flood of water not overflow me nor the deep swallow me up, nor the pit set its mouth on me" (Psalm 69:13-15).

I can honestly say, it is in the troubling times, whether it's sadness, confusion, or various trials, that I have grown in the Lord the most. Disorientation of life can lead to either doubt of God or dependence on God. Thankfully, by His grace, I have learned to lean into the Lord when my "boat gets rocked". He has proven over and over to be who He says He is, the faithful, ever-present, rescuing God. He is the Anchor to my soul. He calms the storm within me even if the winds continue to stir around me. He hears my pleading voice. He hears yours too. Believe Him and hold securely to His mercy and grace. Hear His response to your cries:

“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, but my lovingkindness will not be removed for you, and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says the Lord who has compassion on you (Isaiah 54:10).

Trust the Lord in your times of trouble, Soul Sisters. Call on Him, cry to Him, and allow Him to lift your chin so your eyes can fix steadfastly on Him. As you lean into your loving Father, He will grow your faith. As a result, when things become calm OR even if the wind continues to blow heavily, you will become a living testimony to many concerning His strong support and His matchless love. He will do it because He said so.

FURTHER: 2 Chronicles 16:9; Psalm 33:13-22; Psalm 61:1-4; Psalm 91; Psalm 143:7-11

Dear Lord,

I want to pray this passage back to You with my Soul Sisters We declare together with whole hearts: "God is our refuge and strength, a very help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling places of th the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved" (Psalm 46:1-5). Be mighty in our midst, dear Lord Jesus. Amen.
