Week 3: He WILL Provide

Day 4: He WILL Provide His Spirit

Isaiah 44:3-5 “For I WILL pour out water on thirsty land and streams on the dry ground, I WILL pour My Spirit on your offspring and My blessing on your descendants; and they WILL spring up among the grass like poplars by streams of water. This one will say, “I am the Lord’s; and that one will call on the name of Jacob; and another will write on his hand, “Belonging to the Lord,” and will name Israel’s name with honor.”

Recently my husband and I were on a road trip and found ourselves stuck in a traffic jam in a town of which we were unfamiliar. I opened up my Waze app on my phone because it is, in my honest opinion, the best GPS program available. It not only gives you directions to your location, it also routes you around traffic jams and backups due to collisions, construction or hazards. Oh, and I shouldn’t forget to mention, that it also gives you a heads up when law enforcement is ahead in your journey. Whew! It has saved me from a ticket a time or two for sure. Needless to say, anytime I am traveling alone, I open Waze. But, I digress. On this particular day sitting in the traffic in the unknown city, my husband was not a fan of the app. When I opened up the app and Waze started guiding him in the direction he should go, my sweet husband didn’t like it one bit. He didn't want to listen to it. He didn’t trust it. And, he wanted me to turn it off. Basically He wanted to figure out his own way out of the chaotic gridlock. So, using his own directional sense, which I sarcastically referred to in the moment as his “spidey-sense”, we were still trying to navigate our way out of the congestion over an hour later. If only he had followed the promptings of the GPS!

Jesus came to this earth to walk and show us the way we should live. As He prepared His disciples for His death He assured them that he wasn’t leaving them alone. “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you” John 14:15-17. The word “advocate” in this scripture can be found in different versions of the Bible referred to as Helper, Leader, Guide, Comforter, and Counselor. Every believer has been given the gift of the Holy Spirit to help direct our life. The question is...will we listen?

You see, the Holy Spirit is much like Waze. The Holy Spirit is like an internal GPS guiding us daily as we navigate the journey called life. The Holy Spirit dwells within us pointing us in the right direction, towards Christ. It’s the little voice inside of us leading us to live a life grounded in faith. When we invite the Holy Spirit to take over our thoughts, miraculous things happen…our priorities change, our actions change, and our life experiences change and transformation. It is then that our lives bear witness to the fact that we are a child of the King of kings and Lord of lords. A Spirit filled life is living a life that exhibits faith in God. A Spirit filled life is living life obedient to God. And, a Spirit filled life is living a life empowered by God.

Ladies, why would we live our lives trying to navigate the chaos of this world alone? We have an internal GPS, the Holy Spirt, showing us the way to go. Why would we ignore it? This wonderful gift from God dwells in each of us Sisters! Let's listen to Him; let's follow His direction! He will never lead us down a path where we feel lost! We can trust him to guide us straight into the arms of our Heavenly Father. He WILL do it…because He said so!

FURTHER: Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 16:7; Acts 1:7-8, 2:17; Ephesians 1:18-19

Dear Lord,

Thank You for all that You are. We lift our hearts and our hands in praise to You. All glory and honor are Yours, God! Oh Lord, I am so thankful for the gift of the Holy Spirit. This Helper that You left with me means I am never alone. It means I don’t have to navigate the circumstances of this life wondering which path to take or which road to choose. Help me hear the Still Small Voice that You have placed inside me Father . It’s often hard to hear Him amidst the white noise of the world and I don’t want to miss one correction, one conviction, or one calling. Help me to confidently follow the direction of His promptings as I know He will never lead me astray. Grow my faith to follow the path of the Holy Spirit who will guide me straight to the destination that I so desire… to spend eternity with You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
