Week 1: The I AM says HE WILL Create
Day 4: He will create a new heart in you
Ezekiel 36:26-27 “Moreover, I WILL give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I WILL remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I WILL put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”
I can so vividly remember the moments just before 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 1990. The guests had all arrived and taken their seats. The music was playing, the grandparents and parents were being formally seated, and the bridesmaids began the procession. I was in the back of the foyer of the church all dressed in white and I could literally feel my heart beating out of my chest! I was overcome with joy, excitement and love for the man I was about to marry and my heart was skipping beats because of these emotions!
Have you ever felt your heart race due to fear, love, excitement, or nervousness? It is because of the sensation of our heart beating at different tempos that the ancient Egyptians and Romans considered the heart, not the brain, to be our primary organ. They believed that the heart is the part of the body that both thoughts and feelings come from. Now, after centuries of modern-day medical advancements, we know that it is our brain that controls our body and our thoughts. But, I have to say that I subscribe to that early theory and I try to live by the old saying, “Follow your heart!”
This world we live in comes with many obstacles and hardships. There is negativity all around, you don’t have to search it out. We see it on every television show, commercial, and news stand. Unfortunately, it is easy to develop a heart of stone without even realizing it. You see, little by little life’s problems and the world’s pessimism can cause us to become pitiless, thick-skinned, uncaring, and unfeeling. And boy does the enemy celebrate when this happens. He wants us to have hardened hearts because, as Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, “Above all else, guard our hearts, because everything you do flows from it.” If he can harden our heart, he can prevent us from doing at that God has called us to do. However, our focus scripture today reminds us that God is in control. It clearly states that when we give our heart to Him that His Spirit will take our heart of stone and give us a heart of flesh. A heart that allows the fruits of the Sprit to flow through our lives!
I don’t know about you ladies, but I want God to renew my heart and my spirit daily! I want him to chisel away at any calloused areas and make them soft. I want my heart to be like a sponge and soak in some Jesus! And then, I want to be like the Grinch, the end of the story Grinch, and watch my heart to begin to GROW. I want a GOD SIZED heart! I want my heartbeat to be His heartbeat. I want what breaks His heart to break my heart. I want what makes His heart race with joy to make my heart skip a beat too! So today, when you notice an unkind thought or action attempting to make a rigid mark on your soul, surrender it to Him and remember that He can and will change your heart. He WILL do it…because He said so!

Today I come to You and praise You for all that You are to me. Please forgive me for the times that I allow my circumstances and this world harden my heart. Search my heart Lord, heal it and make it new. Fill me with Your Spirit Lord; I want to be like You. I trust you Lord, with my whole heart (Proverbs 3:5) and I surrender my life to you. I want my heart to be like Your heart. I want the love of Christ flowing through me and from me to touch everyone I meet. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
