"Because He Said So! Discovering who the I AM says I am"

The I AM says I am healed!

“Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.” Jeremiah 17:14

It was early on February 21,1987 when Dr. Varner, a personal friend of the family, came in to the cold grey room that they had gathered us in and through tears spoke these 6 words: “I’m sorry; he didn’t make it.” Wait, what? He didn’t make it? He had just gotten sick the day before and the surgery was successful. No, this didn’t make sense; it was hard to comprehend. My daddy, only 42 years old was gone! My heart ached and my blood boiled. Why would God allow this? Why hadn’t God healed my daddy?

We see evidence of healing throughout the new testament through Jesus and His miracles. He healed many sick and afflicted people: a paralyzed man, a leper, a blind man, a deaf man, and a bleeding woman just to name a few. He even raised people from the dead. Talk about healing! When we think about healing our thoughts generally go directly to physical healing. But there is so much more to the word “heal”. Let's take a deeper look.

The Hebrew word for heal is Rapha'; it simply means to make thoroughly whole. So, if that’s the case…aren’t we all in need of healing? None of us are thoroughly whole. Even if we are blessed at the current time to be physically healthy, we all have wounds that haven’t mended; we are all looking to be made whole. The cure to our unhealthy life can’t be found in a magic pill or a home remedy. Now please know that I am not suggesting that we don’t need to seek the advice/treatment of physicians or throw out our medications and supplements used for treating our illnesses and/or health conditions. I’m not. But I am recommending a big dose of Jesus! It is by His stripes we are healed. It is because of His death our disease is defeated! It is through His sacrifice our sickness subsides. As a result of His wounds we are made well. When we are in Him our prognosis is certain. We have a 100% survival rate. We may be like the bleeding woman and healed instantly or we may be healed, like my daddy, ultimately! No matter how or when, we will be healed, we will be made thoroughly whole for eternity.

You may be suffering from an illness or a disease that is causing you pain and threatening your quality of life, indeed your very life. You may be agonizing over a wounded relationship. You may be aching with the grief of a loss. You may be experiencing the sting of sin and shame caused by sin. You may be hurting, but ladies, we can celebrate today because no matter our situation, we are healed. Our God is still in the miracle business! “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). So today, when the wounds become tender and the pain is pronounced, place your hand on your heart and proclaim, “I am healed…because He said so!”
