"Because He Said So! Discovering who the I AM says I am"

The I AM says I am rescued!

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm 40:1-2

Growing up one of my favorite after school TV Shows was Gilligan’s Island.  You may be familiar with this iconic 70’s sitcom that was the tale of 7 stranded castaways who had set out for that infamous three-hour tour, yes, a three-hour tour.  When the weather started getting rough, their tiny ship was tossed aground on an uncharted desert island and they were stranded in need of rescue. Episode after episode the characters were trying to find a way off that island.  One airing showed The Professor creating a contraption to send out an SOS. I had never heard of this before and later that night my daddy explained to me that an SOS was a signal to let others know you needed rescue. I remember screaming, “Do you mean like yelling HELP!?”

Unlike our fictitious friends from the SS Minnow our moments of rescue can be significantly less fun and entertaining.  As a matter of fact, when we are in need of a rescue the moments can be excruciating, lonely, and filled with extreme fear and danger.

The Oxford Living Dictionary defines rescue as “to save from a dangerous or difficult situation.” However, dictionary.com dives deeper into the meaning by defining it as “to free or deliver from confinement, violence, danger, or evil.”  It is these types of situations when we truly need to send out an SOS!

There are people in the world who are in need of rescue from serious life-or-death situations which most of us cannot comprehend.  But today, you may be in need of your own type of personal rescue. Perhaps you are crying for help to be freed of a stronghold, escaping a tumultuous relationship, overcoming depression or thoughts of unworthiness and self-doubt.  Maybe you are needing to lifted out of the pool of drowning debt, thrown a lifeline to face another day after losing a loved one or pulled out of the quicksand of sickness. Whatever your 9-1-1 situation is, do not hesitate to send up your prayers of SOS to your Heavenly Father.  Claim Psalm 144:7, “Stretch forth your hand from on high; Rescue me and deliver me out of great water.” He promises to never forsake us in our time of weakness; so rest assured Jesus is the Savior that God sent to save us. All we have to do is grab the gift of Christ: He is our life preserver! Whether it is immediately, progressively, or ultimately, we can be absolutely confident that He will rescue us in our desperation!  The Prince of Peace came to pay your ransom. He is mighty to save! So today, when you find yourself feeling distress, send out an SOS to the Rescuer of our souls and claim, “I am rescued…because He said so!”

Dear Lord,

I praise You today for all that You are; You are the Creator of the Universe, the King of kings and Lord of lords. You are the I AM! I know that You created me on purpose for a purpose. I am who You say I am. The enemy wants to hold me back from living out the calling You have placed on my life. Lord, saturate my mind with the truth of Your Word so that I may remember that my identity is found in You and only You. Remind me throughout the day, when the world comes tumbling in, that You are in control. Reveal Your will in my life as I only want to please You. No matter how difficult my day becomes I will remember that I can do all things through You (Phil 4:13). In Jesus' name. Amen
