Happy New Year!
Thank you, Dayna Curtis Moseley, for leading us in our first post of the new year yesterday and for reminding us to choose our word for 2019. Before I share my word for this year AND ask all of you to do the same, would you please pause and read a few verses:
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion that it may give grace to those who hear.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
What I pray you'll see in each of these verses (and there are many, many more like them) is that WORDS are important. As we step fully into 2019, we've asked you to choose a word that will be your focus for the year. Actually, we've asked you to seek the Lord for His focus for your year in a word. Why? Because God has a vision, a plan, and purpose for your year. Don't you want to know it? Don't you want to join Him in the activity planned for you? I sure do!
As has been the case for the past 5 or 6 years, God began to uncover a word for me around Thanksgiving. Our pastor was preaching, and he taught from 1 Corinthians 2:9 which says, "but just as it is written, 'Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.'" In one of his statements, he used the word IMAGINE. At that moment, I felt that this would be my word for 2019, but I committed to pray over it a little longer.
As I began to pray, I started seeing IMAGINE everywhere! I'm not exaggerating. It has popped up all over the place. So, I am choosing to claim this word and scripture as a focus for me in 2019. God can and will choose to do what He wants with it. I'm excited, though, to see what the year will hold. I get to relinquish control, look to Him, and wait for Him to act in ways that I can't even imagine right now.
What about you? Has the Lord uncovered a word of focus for you? Would you please share it below? If you have a scripture to go with your word, please include that as well. Your leadership team deeply desires to know you as genuinely as we can. These words and the stories behind them allow us that opportunity. They also provide a way for us to pray with you and for you. This is community at its finest. We get to link arms and join forces as we set out to courageously live the lives God has planned for us.
So, regardless of what 2018 held (good or bad), we get a fresh start in 2019. How do you want to begin? What word will you claim as your own?
