Welcome to Day 5 of our Christmas Devotional study celebrating WHO Jesus is and WHY He came. Today we turn our hearts and minds to celebrating Jesus as the Good Shepherd.
And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; for you shall come forth a Ruler, who will shepherd My people Israel.
Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs, And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.
Psalm 23: 1-3
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul; He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me.
I am your Good Shepherd. I know you, and I want to carry you, quiet you, guide you, and restore your soul. Let My rod and staff comfort you as you walk out your days. I am here morning, noon, and night.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the comfort and peace You provide as our Good Shepherd. We trust that You will never leave us. You will never forsake us. You are a Protector and a Provider for us, and You do it perfectly. Particularly during this season, reveal yourself as our caretaker and guide. Remind us to look up daily trusting that You have journeyed our path already. You go before and You hem us in from behind. During this season, cause our hearts to live in peaceful celebration.
