Thankful Hearts: Four Seasons
Today, I am thankful for...the beauty of SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, and WINTER.
Scripture: Isaiah 55:10-13, "As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be the Lord's renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever."
Post: I was reading a bit about the seasons and learned a few things. Spring is a time that plants move out of their dormant stage and begin to sprout and put forth buds and fresh leaves. Birds begin nesting and migratory species start to move to summer territory. Soils are tilled and planted. Summer is a time where plants grow and ripen. Young animals grow and learn. There is abundant food and it's time for both humans and animals to store up for the coming winter. Fall is a time the temperature gets cooler and markes the harvest season. Animals start to migrate, some grow thicker hair, and all prepare food wise for the coming winter. Winter's a time of slowing down, both animals and plants conserve energy, and humans mark this time with feasts and celebrations looking forward to spring time when it all begins again. These seasons represent the circle of life. Our lives as believers actually mirror the seasons. God sends the snow and rain to water us so we we will sprout, grow, and flourish. He uses us to joyfully spread His word or "seed". As the scripture above tells us, when His word goes out, it will accomplish what He desires. And so the circle of life continues: More people become believers and the growing and spreading of His word continues . How amazing is that?!
The photo I have attached is a painting of my great grandmother’s house where my mother and her three siblings were born. Each sibling received this painting in their favorite season. My mother’s favorite was spring which was a fit since she had a spring like personality . She was really fond of this particular color of green that represents new growth which comes from the rain and snow God sends. I like that the trees are becoming alive again with their fresh leaves . The plants are beginning to bud and time will tell what beautiful flowers are coming from these buds. This painting which now hangs in my house marks new life for my family. I love that my mother's sister in law had the talent to paint this and I love that my mother was so crazy about spring: New life and hope represented in such a beautifully visual way. That's our God- He is a creator and artist like no other.
Take some time today to look outside. Maybe you don't like what you see this season- be that outside your window or inside your own life. Remember, the seasons will change and new life is coming. That's the thing, seasons are finite. There are actual dates that mark the beginning and end of them so if today doesn't look good to you, maybe tomorrow will. As God brings new growth in the plants and animals so He will with you. "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and the trees of the field will clap their hands"(Isaiah 55:12). What an encouraging verse this is. God uses His creation in nature to cheer for us !
For further reflection read the following scriptures:
Psalm 104:19-24; Psalm 113:1-3.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the beauty all around us . From the bleak, quiet beauty of the winter, to the budding greens we see in spring, followed by the bright flowers that flourish in summer, to the cool weather we experience with your rainbow of harvest time colors. Let us take time to notice the painting You have for us each day and help us to find the unique beauty and opportunity that may be hiding at first glance. And Father, thank You for the hope this circle of life give us. Help us to remain vigilant , knowing that the buds are near. Amen
