Today, I am thankful for..... My JOB.
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
I love that scripture! Psalm 139 speaks of the wonder of our creation. Each one of us was intricately planned and designed by God. He's not surprised by one thing about you and me. Amazing! Even more than that, though, He designed each of us perfectly for the works we get to participate in.
Does it sound crazy to thank God for a job? I believe there were times in my life that I would have felt that way. Somewhere along the way, though, I've realized that work isn't a negative thing. Jobs aren't to be despised. They aren't a result of the fall that we should grumble against them. God gave Adam jobs to do before he and Eve ever ate of the forbidden fruit. Our jobs aren't punishment. They are opportunities to join God in His work each and every day. Our jobs give us purpose, and I'm thankful for that.
But, I think we can be even more specific. In each one of our jobs, there are particular things we get to do, and God has created us for each of those tasks. As a preschool director, I get to love, encourage and help teachers care for their classrooms and students. I get to comfort parents in their struggles and celebrate in their victories. I have the fantastic joy of holding, hugging, and loving on infants through 5 year olds. They call my name like I'm a celebrity, and it is amazing! :) Believe me, there are mornings I'd rather sleep in, visit with friends, or go to the gym. But, I'm thankful for my job. It's a joy and a gift to serve others with the talents God has given me. (I included a few pictures from the preschool just to prove I have the best job in the world :).
How can you give specific thanks for you job today? How have you been uniquely designed to fulfill the job you've been given? What a mighty God we serve! He has equipped us for the jobs He planned for us long ago.

God, thank you so much for giving us purpose and calling. Thank you so much for providing for us through our jobs. Although, work is work and sometimes we feel overwhelmed by it, we know that YOU have called us and YOU faithful to complete the work that you've started. In all of our jobs, we have the gift of relationships. There are people in our lives simply because we see them in our work places every day. Be big in us and allow Your goodness to flow from us in a way that touches those we work with. Help us to share Your love, Your grace, and Your gospel in our jobs. Amen.
