Thankful Hearts: The Five Senses
Today, I am thankful for ...the sense of SIGHT
Scripture: Romans 1:20 ,"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities---His eternal power and divine nature---have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
Post: I am one of the most visual people I know- and even that is an understatement. I not only learn visually ( I need to see it or read it in order to remember it ) but I am very aware how I am effected emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically by my visual surroundings. God knows exactly what speaks to me so much that He gave me the gift of knowing how to design and decorate tangible spaces. Before I knew it, I became an interior decorator. I love art, architecture, and home decor. I love color and texture and how they work together. I love the beauty I see just looking out the window of my car as I drive around. I can sit for a long period and study the different greens I see in the landscape or the blues in the sky and don't even get me started on looking at the trees in the fall.
I have the priviledge of living in a place with very large windows that give way to the beautiful, serene country setting in Tennessee. I am completely in awe of what the Lord has done for me with this place that I live. He knows that I am a huge homebody and what I see with my eyes truly speaks to my soul in a way nothing else can. He knew long before I did that this retreat like setting that I call home was going to be a place I found healing before I even knew I needed to be healed. He is here and He speaks to me in surroundings designed by the Ultimate Designer. No one can or will ever be able do it better. He knows me well enough to know when I enter the pearly gates of Heaven, I'll be the one intensely studying to see if the pearls used are salt water, fresh water, baroque or round in shape, and all the unimaginable colors of pearls He used on those gates. I anticipate this vision will take me more than the average time to process and I might be the one holding up the line ... (Kidding.... well, maybe not kidding)
The verse from Romans written above talks about the kind of God that nature reveals. Nature shows us a God of might, intelligence, and intricate detail; a God of order and beauty; a God who controls powerful forces. In other words one of the ways He shows us WHO He is, is through WHAT He created. It's most definitely not the only way we see evidence of God but for a visual person, this is huge! Today I am grateful that He chooses to speak to me each time I look around and I am so very thankful He gave me eyesight to enjoy the smorgasbord of sights He has just waiting for me. Everywhere we are there is something of His that can visually engage us. I LOVE the message version of Romans 1:20, "Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can't see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of His divine being. So nobody has a good excuse." Evidence of God is out there for EVERYONE to see - no excuses accepted.
Today, take some time to look around. Look inside and outside . Where do You see God in your world? Do you find evidence of Him in your beautiful children, in a painting on your wall, in the rainbow that appears after a rain? Please feel free to share or even post a photo of where you see our Lord in your corner of the world. He's there so let's look up and take time to enjoy His creation.
For further reflection look up the following verses:
Genesis 1:31; Genesis 9:12-17; Psalm 8:3-4.
Dear Lord, Thank You for Creation; For the intricate details of a baby being formed, for the tiny seed that turns into a huge tree, for the beautiful colors that we see in the sunset, for the vast ocean that is so serene. Lord, Your creation is mind- boggling to think of all it entails both big and small. Thank You that everyone , believers and non-believers have evidence every day of who You are. We pray today that You will open the eyes of our loved ones in a way they can see and will know beyond a shadow of a doubt You are everything You claim to be. And Father, we thank You for sight You have gifted us with. We do not take this for granted and count it as a blessing to have eyes to see everything and everyone You have so graciously given to us. Amen
