WEEK 1 - Tree
Thursday, September 6
Scripture: John 15:1-7; Ephesians 4:31-32; Romans 8:11-14; Romans 8:28.
Read and then meditate or write in your journal anything that speaks to you.
Every time I go to Disney World I am amazed at the beautiful topiaries in the shape of all the beloved characters: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, etc. I remember one time when I was a little girl seeing a gardener take clippers to Cinderella and I was horrified that he was cutting off her arm. I was a bit older when I realized that this continual clipping and trimming was an intentional and regularly scheduled act that was needed to create the desired results -a tree shaped like one of the characters that generations have grown to know and love.
Isn't that what the Father's pruning does for us? Isn't it to form us, to shape us, in the image of Jesus?
You see pruning isn't intended as a punishment but as an act of creating us to be all that we can be. It is necessary in the process of shaping us to be more like Him. Even though we consciously know the pruning process is for our own good, it doesn't always feel good! It can be difficult and it can be challenging, but... praise the Lord, it can be life altering.
What about you ladies...iIs there a time in your life that you experienced God’s pruning? Knowing that it is needed to help us produce more fruit and shape us to be more like Jesus, can you trust God in the pruning process even if you cannot understand why or what He is doing? Please share any thoughts you have that might help others.
Dear Lord, We confess that the thought of being pruned does not sound pleasant. But we surrender our life to you knowing that with each snip and clip that you make in our lives, you are shaping us to be more like the Son. You are creating in us women who will bear more fruit and use this fruit for your glory. Lord in the pruning we pray Ephesians 4:31-31 and ask you to please clip away the bitterness, rage, anger, and malice from our souls to make way for kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. Oh how we want to be more like Jesus! We know that in all things, God, you work the good of those who love You and who are called according to your purpose. For this we praise you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
