Free to Be Brave, Day 2

Tuesday, August 14th

Read: Joshua 1: 1-9

Remember: “There comes a moment for each of us wherein we must decide -- will we be brave, or will we remain enslaved to fear?” Rebekah Lyons

Reflect: When I read our scripture verses for today, I could just picture Joshua being nervous or afraid about how he would ever be able to fill Moses’ shoes. Just think about it…. Moses is the one who went to Egypt and performed several signs before the pharaoh. He is the one who led the Israelites out of Egypt. He also led the people across the Red Sea. And, let’s not forget that Moses is the one who went before God and was given the Ten Commandments on tablets. Moses had more accomplishments than I can even fathom (and write about), and I have to believe that some of these strong suits had to be going through Joshua’s mind too. It’s so easy for us to compare ourselves to others and become afraid and fearful. What if I’m not successful? What if I can’t do it? What if others judge me? What if I get hurt? What if…..you fill in the blank.

God not only told Joshua that He needed him, He also commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous, not to be discouraged or terrified. God reassured him that and He would never leave him or forsake him. That same God is the one who calls us today and will remain with us no matter what.If God calls you to it, He’ll bring you through it. Let us get our strength and courage to do His will from Him when He calls!!

Rest: What would you do if you weren’t afraid? Have you ever thought about that question? Spend some time reflecting on it today. But, don’t let thoughts consume you or cause anxiety. Take this question to the Lord questioning if now is the time for bravery in this one area. Like Joshua, we are free to be brave not because we are so very strong but because God goes with us wherever we go. Therefore, it’s time to break free from the chains of fear.

Prayer for Soul Sisters:

Dear Glorious Father in Heaven,

Thank you for knowing us inside and out, along with every hair on our head and breath we breathe. Since you know our every thought, you know that we often struggle with forgetfulness. We forget that you are always by our side and that you would never leave us or forsake us. When you call us to go out into the world to live according to your will and to love and serve others, let us be brave and not fear the plan you have for us. Just as you reassured Joshua in His time of need, please reassure us in our time of need. Let us feel your presence and hear your encouraging words, “In the same way I was with Moses, I’ll be with you. I won’t give up on you; I won’t leave you. Strength! Courage!” “Give it everything you have, heart and soul.”

God, we praise you for giving us just what we need when we need it. Forgive us when we even doubt the strength and courage you provide us. May we go forward today with broken chains of fear, all to glorify you!!

In your Son’s name we pray. Amen.
